The editorial verdict

Two distinct reasons to choose.

Best for self-contained modes and optional heads

NuFACE TRINITY+

The clearer fit for readers who want device-controlled modes and the option to add compatible physical attachments without an active app.

Best for app-led program variety

ZIIP HALO

The clearer fit for readers who accept a phone-dependent treatment library in exchange for varied guided programs beyond its built-in facial.

The current answer

Choose NuFACE TRINITY+ if you want a microcurrent routine controlled from the device, value optional physical treatment heads, and prefer not to depend on a live app. Choose ZIIP HALO if you specifically want its wider app-guided program library and are comfortable pairing the device when you want anything beyond the built-in four-minute facial.

That answer has changed: NuFACE discontinued the NuFACE Smart App. Its current help center says compatible devices continue to work without the app and directs users to web and YouTube tutorials. NuFACE also instructed TRINITY+ owners to install a final firmware update before the app sunset so three treatment modes could be selected from the device. ZIIP, meanwhile, still centers most HALO programs and plans on its active app.

This is a research-based comparison using official manufacturer and regulatory materials checked on August 10, 2026. LuxeSkinDaily has not personally tested either device and does not claim a performance winner.

NuFACE after the app shutdown

Older comparisons describe TRINITY+ as an app-connected platform. That is no longer the normal ownership experience.

NuFACE’s help center says the Smart App was discontinued and that devices remain usable without it. Before shutdown, the brand directed TRINITY+, MINI+, and FIX Line Smoothing Device owners to complete a final firmware update without interrupting the process. On an updated TRINITY+, its current instructions map button presses to:

  • one press for Instant-Lifting mode;
  • two presses for Pro-Toning mode;
  • three presses for Skin Tightening mode;
  • then holding the power button for two seconds to begin.

If you own an older unit and do not know whether that final update was installed, contact NuFACE support with the exact device and serial details. Do not assume an unavailable app can now perform the update.

The practical upside is that ongoing use is not tethered to a phone. The tradeoff is that guided routines have moved outside the device/app pairing experience to NuFACE’s website and YouTube channel. Buyers who wanted a live connected program may consider that a loss; buyers who dislike app dependence may prefer the current self-contained workflow.

ZIIP HALO: one built-in routine, a larger app layer

ZIIP says HALO can run its four-minute facial without the app. For other treatments and multi-treatment plans, the device syncs with the ZIIP app, which supplies guided videos and changes the programmed waveform sequence.

That makes app use optional only in a narrow sense. You can use the core built-in facial without a phone, but the program variety that differentiates HALO is software-led. Before buying, check:

  • whether the current ZIIP app supports your phone and region;
  • whether you are willing to pair and sync before varied treatments;
  • whether guided video is helpful or adds friction in the treatment location;
  • whether the built-in facial alone would still justify owning the hardware if software access changed.

ZIIP uses “Nanocurrent” as brand terminology for lower-level waveforms used alongside microcurrent. That label should not be read as proof that HALO has a medically superior or clinically equivalent mechanism to another device. Compare evidence for the exact device, program, protocol, and measured endpoint.

The routines are not interchangeable

NuFACE TRINITY+

The core facial trainer attachment is a two-sphere microcurrent head. NuFACE positions its core routine as a short, repeated facial-toning sequence and sells compatible optional heads in some bundles or separately. The ELE attachment targets smaller eye and lip areas with microcurrent. The Wrinkle Reducer is a separate red-light attachment with different technology and instructions.

That modularity is useful only if you want the attachments enough to store, clean, charge, and use them according to separate protocols. A kit name does not guarantee every head is included.

ZIIP HALO

HALO keeps fixed contacts on one device and changes the treatment through programmed waveforms. The broader library covers different face areas and cosmetic goals, but the owner must select and follow the exact app routine. ZIIP recommends a regular weekly rhythm and limits how often plans should be stacked; follow the live program directions rather than combining sessions from memory.

Neither device is passive. Placement, movement, full conductive-gel coverage, and adherence to area restrictions matter. A tingle is not evidence that a stronger outcome is occurring; it can signal insufficient gel or poor contact.

Conductive gel is part of the device, not an accessory

Both manufacturers require a conductive medium for microcurrent use. Build replenishment, application time, and cleanup into the ownership decision.

For NuFACE, follow the current instructions for an approved activator and keep the treatment area adequately covered during the pass. For ZIIP, the brand describes Electric Complex Gel as essential and applies it as a mask before treatment. Do not replace either with an arbitrary water-based skincare product unless the manufacturer explicitly approves that use.

Before purchase, ask:

  • How much does the manual tell you to apply per session?
  • Can one section be re-wetted or does it require more product?
  • Must the gel remain on or be removed afterward?
  • Which formulas are approved for the exact device?
  • Can you comfortably keep buying and storing the consumable?

This comparison intentionally omits prices because temporary listings do not establish total ownership cost.

Charging, cleaning, and physical ownership

NuFACE TRINITY+ uses a charging cradle. Follow its exact user manual for the first charge, indicator behavior, compatible power supply, cleaning, and storage. Its removable head creates contact points and an attachment interface that should be kept clean and dry as directed.

ZIIP supplies a USB-A-to-USB-C charging cable and specifies a maximum 5 V adapter. The brand says charging may take up to four hours and that HALO should not be used while charging. Its fixed metal contacts are wiped with a soft cloth after treatment; do not improvise immersion or harsh cleaners.

For either system, keep proof of purchase and confirm that the seller is authorized. NuFACE and ZIIP currently describe two-year warranty coverage for qualifying new devices, but warranty eligibility, returns, shipping, and regional service depend on the current written terms and seller—not on the product category.

Evidence: do not transfer one clearance or study to every claim

Microcurrent and other electrical-stimulation studies differ by device, waveform, intensity, placement, schedule, comparator, participant group, and endpoint. A study on one protocol does not validate all modes in either commercial system.

Regulatory language also needs precision. The FDA database lists a 510(k) clearance for the NuFACE Trinity Plus Wrinkle Reducer, the separate light-based attachment, for an over-the-counter wrinkle-reduction indication. That record should not be presented as FDA approval of every TRINITY+ microcurrent claim or as evidence about ZIIP. FDA 510(k) clearance and premarket approval are different pathways, and neither is a consumer product rating.

Manufacturer before-and-after images, percentages, awards, reviews, and “clinically proven” labels should be traced to the exact test and endpoint before influencing the decision. This page does not reproduce outcome percentages because it cannot independently verify that they predict an individual result.

Read LED versus microcurrent before treating these mechanisms as substitutes. Our NuFACE versus Solawave versus INIA comparison also shows why devices with different energy types should not be ranked by mode count.

Safety and fit come before the brand choice

Read both current manuals and contraindication lists in full. Pay particular attention to implanted electronic devices, seizure history, pregnancy, recent procedures, active skin conditions, and any manufacturer-listed medication or treatment restrictions. The lists and device-specific areas to avoid are not identical.

Do not use an editorial comparison to decide medical suitability. Seek qualified advice when your health history, medication, procedure timing, or skin condition creates uncertainty, and stop use if the experience differs from the instructions.

Which ownership model fits you?

Choose NuFACE TRINITY+ if:

  • you want modes selected directly on the device;
  • you prefer external tutorials to ongoing app pairing;
  • compatible physical attachments solve a specific additional need;
  • a charging cradle and removable-head system fit your storage;
  • you accept activator replenishment and the brand’s routine frequency.

Choose ZIIP HALO if:

  • you will actually use the varied app-guided treatments;
  • fixed hardware is more appealing than interchangeable heads;
  • a four-minute app-free fallback is sufficient when your phone is unavailable;
  • you accept syncing, guided videos, gel application, and USB charging;
  • you understand “Nanocurrent” as manufacturer positioning rather than a universal evidence grade.

Choose neither yet if:

  • you have not read the contraindications;
  • you do not want a recurring conductive product;
  • the recommended routine will not fit an ordinary month;
  • you are primarily seeking LED and have not separated that mechanism from microcurrent;
  • app or consumable dependence would make the device difficult to use consistently.

Use the before-buying beauty-device checklist to test those dependencies before choosing a listing.
